Microfilm D261 and Microfilm D261a are now located in the Microfilm LC call number section after call number HB161.G64. The call number in the CAT reflects the Microfilm D261 and Microfilm D261a call number.
All,
The printer/copier in the back office is now working again. Please feel free to make color prints/copies as needed. Newspaper pages for the lobby display wall can resume in color. Again, if you have questions or problems concerning newspaper front pages that were previously printed, follow the instructions in the previous Blog message and help users meet their needs.
Thanks for your patience, Lisa
Microfilm D261 and D261a have not been shifted. Take a look and see where they are in case a patron needs the film over the weekend.
Sandy
The printer in the back office is not printing color prints the way it should. We cannot change the printing in the Newspaper Direct software to all Black & White, so the front pages of the newspapers will look very blurry. This will not be repaired until mid-afternoon on Monday at the earliest.
If a patron needs the front page of a newspaper that is difficult to read, see if that newspaper is in Press Display and direct them to that database. As a last resort, print the front page for them, but try directing them to the database first.
If you have any questions, please ask. Lisa
We have resumed checking in newspapers into Workflows. The Recently Arrived note should now be current for all newspapers in their respective CAT records.
Thank you for your patience, Lisa
On Wednesday, July 30, a crew from YOUniversity will be on campus filming interviews and prominent locations on campus that will ultimately be edited into a 6 minute Video Tour that will be available on a dedicated website. Clair M. Poletti, Video Projects Coordinator, Penn State Film Office, will be escorting the film crew in the Libraries. Their guidelines are (per Catherine Gricar) ..that you do not disrupt students and that you honor any requests by individuals who do not want to be filmed or photographed.
Sandy
Staff,
There will be no issues of the newspapers checked in until further notice as there is maintenance being performed on Serial Control functions in Workflows. Therefore, the Recently Arrived note in the CAT record will not be current during this time.
If you get a question about a missing newspaper issue, physically check the shelves or the room to locate the issue. If it is not on the shelves, adjacent shelves or lying around the room, ask if they need specific article content and use electronic sources (especially Press Display which can be browsed like a newspaper) to get them the information they need. Maintenance should last no more than a couple of days.
Thanks for you cooperation, Lisa
UPDATE: The Papers of the NAACP are now located in the LC classed microfilm section (E185.5 )but are reflected in the CAT with the A434 call number.
The Papers of the NAACP, are not yet LC classed, but they are being shifted to the the E185.5 LC classed microfilm section. This is the call number they will receive when they are LC classed. There is a sign posted at the Microfilm A434 call number section directing patrons to the LC classed section. Also, in the LC classed section there is a sign posted where the Papers of the NAACP begin. Take time to familiarize yourself with the new location. Right now they are split between the two areas. Watch for updates. Thanks. Sandy
Staff,
Please be aware that there will be an extended interruption to the Penn State Access Account Storage Space site that may affect the ability of users to save to their PASS this coming weekend, July 3rd-July 7th. Please take time to read the ITS announcement below. During this time, try and recommend to users that it would be preferable for them to save to another storage space, such as their network drive, jump drive, etc.
[Information Technology Services (ITS) will perform a major upgrade to the systems that support Penn State Access Account Storage Space (PASS) services beginning at the close-of-business on July 3, 2008 and ending at
approximately 7:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7. As a result, several PASS services and tools will be disabled and/or interrupted -- however, migration facilitators will
strive for as little disruption of service to the Penn State community as possible, while the changes are being implemented.
The migration schedule will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, at which time the current PASS system will be suspended from service and no longer available for use.
New PASS accounts will not be added/created again until 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, once the new system is in place. In addition, all tools and methods for accessing PASS will be disabled, and all services that use PASS will default to read-only mode. It should be noted that some brief interruptions of read-only service may be experienced during the regularly-scheduled maintenance window on the dates noted above.
For users who need to provide updated content to their respective PASS spaces by July 7, it is recommended that they download local copies of their work prior to July 3. This way, they will be able to update and save content locally, and then upload files once the migration is fully complete on July 7. A full listing of services affected by this extended maintenance will be available via
If you have any questions, please ask.
Thanks, Lisa
Staff,
I have pulled all of the Chicago Tribune issues from the shelf and placed a sign there saying:
The CHICAGO TRIBUNE
is unavailable in print format at this time
Let us know if this presents concerns.
Alternatively, full-text content for most articles can be found in America’s Newspapers and ProQuest Newsstand.
Go to the News and Microforms Library’s home page
http://www.libraries.psu.edu/newsandmicroforms/
Click on the NewsCAT link under Finding Guides and Tools and search Chicago Tribune for availability.
If you get comments or questions from patrons, please record them here. I have linked this post under "printed newspaper feedback" to make it easy to locate. Also, please help patrons find alternative sources for Chicago Tribune content using NewsCAT as described above.
As always, if you have any questions or problems locating information for Chicago Tribune, please ask.
Thanks, Lisa
