We have recently subscribed to several new news channels that will be incorporated into the schedule by the end of this week. Please follow the TV Channel Schedule as before.
One additional change: there is one channel, EuroNews, which broadcasts news programming in several languages. In order to do this, the audio feed for Satellite 2 must be changed to the desired language. EuroNews is shown on the schedule with the language that should be broadcast. I have provided instructions for changing the audio feed/language. Please review and test the instructions and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
EuroNews is aired on two different channels depending on which language is desired. The channel numbers are on the schedule, but here is a quick reminder:
Use channel 900 for English, Italian, and Portuguese (you must use the 'Alternate' selection on the language menu for Portuguese).
Use channel 901 for Russian (you must use the 'Alternate' selection on the language menu for Russian).
Any and all feedback on the schedule, instructions, or the channel content in general is welcome. Please pass along any comments you receive from library patrons about the changes. You can use the Comment section of this posting to record the feedback. And as always, if you notice that there is programming on a particular channel that you do not think is "newsworthy," change to another channel and let me know which day and time the program aired.

Once again Ford Risley's Comm 401 class is looking at the coverage of the Titanic Disaster in the New York Times. (Due next week)
The film for April 16, 1912 is behind the reference desk on the little brown table (next to the reference desk book collection). Students will be asking for the NYT reel for the Titanic stories. Ask them to Please return it to the reference desk when they are finished. However, because we have one reel of film, Ford has authorized the use of the NYT Digital Archive so be sure you are able to show students how to find the front page for a specific date. Also remind them as Ford does to look at the PAGE MAP to see the entire page and stories in context.
Journal 5: Assignment as given by Professor Risley
Discuss the New York Times' coverage of the Titanic disaster. In your discussion, be sure to address the various ways the Times covered the story (stories, photos, etc.) and the subjects the paper covered. How does the coverage reflect the development of the press we have discussed? How is the Times' coverage both different from and similar to the way the news media covers a big event today? [You can read the coverage on microfilm or on the New York Times Digital Archive database. The microfilm is available at the News and Microforms Help Desk; the help desk can show you how to use the database. If you use the database, be sure to view the page maps as well as the article images so that you can see what the entire pages look like.]

Due to the switch from MM to Oracle calendar, we are still working through the details of how to get into the Film/Video Room and Desk Calendars.
Meanwhile, any changes to the:
· Desk schedule should be made directly on the printed copies at the Desk Schedule (on the outside of the notebook binder).
· Reservations to the F/V Room should be made on the print copy of the F/V room calendar (printed copies are located on top of the desk with the Reference Statistics clipboard). Please, just block out the hours (be sure to do this) that are requested.
· ALL RULES for use of the F/V room still apply.
Please, accept our apologies for these inconveniences. We will inform you when access to these calendars will be available.

Students may print up to 110 black-and-white pages each semester without incurring extra charges. The cost of these is subsidized by the information technology fee. After 110 pages (or the equivalent in color pages), each additional page on non-color printers costs $0.05, regardless of how much is printed on the paper, or if one or two sides are used. In order to print more than 110 pages, the student must have agreed for billing at a Signature Station; this is usually done when you get your Access Account. If you didn't agree to pay for printing and change your mind, you may return to any Signature Station, but it will be a while until you can print if you have used all 110. Page counts are for sheets of paper, regardless of printing on one or both sides.
