Historical Digital Collegian and Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps are on the Alumni Library web page

The latest edition of the Alumni Library web page features nice stories and examples of The Historical Digital Collegian and Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps.

Since we get questions about both these sources, please take a few minutes to review the content using direct link to the Alumni Library  http://alumni.libraries.psu.edu/ or link to Libraries’ home page http://www.libraries.psu.edu  (link to Alumni Library web site is in the lower right corner  “For Alumni” ).

Additional information about the Alumni Library web pages can be found on Libraries’ Intranet web site http://www.libraries.psu.edu:8001/resources/faqs/alumnilibraryfaq_staff.html
(This information can be used to refer patrons to as a resource).

Printed newspaper availability

I want you all to be aware that there are issues of the printed newspaper titles that were not printed over the holidays, namely, December 24th-26th.  These will not be printed and will not be readily available to the patrons.  However, if you get a request for one of these issues, there are two options:

1.  First check PressDisplay (or NewsStand for Pais) to see if the title is available online and try to direct the patron to this version of the issue.

2.  If the newspaper is not available in PressDisplay, or if the patron really needs a printed issue of a title, take the person's name and e-mail address and tell them that the issue will be available in 24 hours (unless they request on a weekend, then the turnaround will be Monday afternoon).

One last thing: If you get requests for issues for these three days, please let me know via e-mail (and copy Ashoo) how you were able to help them.  If you were able to use Press Display, then we would like to know.  If they request a printed issue, we need to know so that we can have the issue printed and ready for the person in the 24-hour period.  We would just like to have an idea of how many requests we are getting for issues from the holiday dates.  If you could help us keep track of requests in this way, it  will help us do some planning for next year.

Thank you for your cooperation.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
